Olav Bergheim of Laguna Beach, CA is a Norwegian immigrant
who used to practice the piano 6 hours a day in his youth but had abandoned it
in his college days. Now, after a few decades of working in the field of
life sciences, his interest in the piano has rekindled and he wants to get back
into his playing form, to play his style of crooner jazz as in the old days he
did at parlors, bars, and gigs with bands on the road. He has an excellent
piano, a little Schimmel which had bought new for $2,000 and which, in current
day, would cost 5x as much. After the tuning and tone repair to his spinet
was done, he said "Thank you. It sounds very good. I'm glad you did it." He
then asked Leo to tune his Steinway piano in his other house in Norway.
Leo would gladly oblige if travel fare and a pretty Norwegian hostess would be
provided.

Berni Lambert of Pacific Pallisades, CA is a British
immigrant and a newcomer to the Los Angeles area. She
was a music teacher with many students and proudly claims, along with her
tourist mother from the UK, to have perfect pitch ears. She brought
this beautiful Yamaha grand piano out here from the East coast and had let it
settle for a year without doing anything to it. As she had properly
observed, whenever moving a piano from one climate region to another, it is a
good idea to let the piano acclimate to its new surrounding before tuning it.
The piano's tone was somewhat weak and uneven and its pitch was quite below standard
pitch but after Leo's rigorous hammer work, she says "It's very nice. It's exactly where I'd like it
(the piano tuning) to be."

Mathew Smith of Irvine, CA, a music student at Orange Coast
Community College, is relieved to have his family's Kimball spinet piano
repaired after months of complaining about it. His specialty is the
guitar but with a double major in composition, he'll spend lots of time at the
piano. His mom and sisters also play the piano but only occasionally,
focusing mainly on religious ministry songs. The piano's touch was
weak and uneven all across the board. It was riddled with dead keys, slow
responding keys, continuous ringing keys, double strike keys, dull tones, and,
lastly, it was way off standard pitch. After the repairs to bring all 88 keys back
to life Mathew said "Now it's a much more enjoyable playing experience."

Pat Fox of Brea, CA donated this Armstrong player piano along
with 200 piano rolls to a retirement apartment community of the Rotary Club of
Brea. After our piano movers had brought in the repaired piano, the ladies gathered around waiting eagerly to test the
piano. When the rolls started rolling and the Aeolian foot driven player piano made sounds they burst out with a wide grin of
delight. "Great. I'm so
glad you fixed it," she said, then everyone watched mesmerized as the
piano played automatically.

Jack Staub of Newport Beach, CA is the proud owner of a
beautiful, restored, 1899 Bosendorfer grand piano. In his spare time
this radar electronic engineer, who was job transplanted here from the east
coast, enjoys improvising original music on the piano for relaxation.
The piano was wonderfully restored in Poland by the Meyer Company and brought
here. It had a new Carpathian spruce soundboard and a new Renner action
but it was way flat out of tune, had thin and uneven tones, and needed some
internal recalibration for bring out better fuller sounds. The piano was
in a high humidity area which caused new strings to rust prematurely.
Living close to the ocean, it's best to have an automated humidity controller
which can be installed underneath the piano. After the repairs, he said "I'm
happy you did the work on the piano. It really came alive again. It's a
huge difference. I really appreciate all the work that you did."
Afterwards, Leo played an improvised classical minuet to test the tuning &
repairs to which Jack commented "Excellent."

The Costa Mesa Civic Playhouse is holding a musical play featuring a pianist and several singers. They had an old piano that
had been serviced only once in a blue moon. A few keys
had ringing tone problem, tone was hard as a hammer, and the tuning was way off.
After the service the manager, Mark Moneti said "I don't know about piano but
it
sounds good."

Shirley England is a pleasant, chatty, retired lady from Lake
Forest, CA who enjoys in playing religious hymns and popular light music. Originally from Iowa, she moved to Chicago to start a family.
She soon divorced her abusive husband and moved out to California on her own.
After a long career in nursing, she now lives quietly and volunteers as a tour
guide for the Bower's museum in Santa Ana. Her interest in cultural
anthropology led her to visit China in 2000. To this day still fascinated, she
delighted in showing her album
photos of her trip. Photography is her hobby and her
photos are of post card quality. Her other hobby is the piano. She has a
1952 Acrosonic spinet which sounded quite off tune and had an uneven and thin
sound. After Leo repaired her piano, she was astounded. She
said "Three previous piano tuners had worked on my piano and none had ever given
me
a sound like this. I never could imagine my piano could
sound so good. I am so pleased that you came. Thank you."

Ruth Biard, of Garden Grove, CA and her huge family enjoy playing
Mormon hymns on their turn-of-the-century Iverson upright piano in their living room.
Originally from Arizona, she had moved out to California 25 yrs ago to raise
eight
well behaved kids in her husband's hometown of Garden Grove. The piano was
greatly out of tune and had some keys that had uneven touch and double-striking
tones. Lastly, 35 pennies were found underneath the keys. Their piano teacher would use cute pennies placed
atop of the children's hand to teach proper hand position. After the tuning and repairs, she said "It sounded
good."

Daniel Pok of Downey, CA had just come back from military
service and immediately enrolled in Cerritos College, majoring in music,
his first love. This modest immigrant family from Korea reminds me of my own
(Vietnamese) immigrant days way back in the 1960s. This big 6'1 Kawai
grand piano dominates the living room. How they had managed to
move this big thing into their cramped apartment is still puzzling. Besides being
out of tune this piano had tone problems that were continuous, thin and
hard sounding. When done, Daniel said "my piano problems were all fixed" and
the family joined in saying "Wonderful repair."

Kathy Smith of Costa
Mesa, CA loves to play church hymns and popular Broadway tunes on her
Young Chang baby grand piano but she'd been greatly annoyed by its general tone
and touch. The tone sounded hard and thumpy; the touch felt
stiff and uneven; and some keys weren't at level height with others. Checking out the piano afterwards, she exhaled out "Such an incredible difference from before. The piano tone and touch were masterfully
repaired."

Randy Casillan's spinet piano sat out collecting dust for
years in the family house's billiard room in Huntington Beach, CA.
Although it laid around since he was in elementary school, he had only taken
note and interest in it now. Along with his studies at Orange Coast Community
College this freshman has decided to learn to play the piano.
Throughout the tuning, he sat quietly in the background observing and said
nothing. When done, Randy said,
"This is an excellent piano tuning."

The Duong family of Irvine, CA just picked up this used
Yamaha U1 for $1500 for their 5 yr old son to play on. The piano sounded off
standard pitch by a semitone, and the case was riddled with scratches, bad
surface condition, and gouges. They asked Leo to repair the piano, and to
refinish the exterior. Afterwards, content with the repairs
and the nice new polished piano, they asked Leo to play a Clayderman piano
piece. They liked Leo's playing and inquired about his background. and
inquired about a piano teacher for their son, Eaton.

Richard of Anaheim, CA is a guitarist in the band that plays
at the Magnolia Baptist Church in Anaheim, CA. The band was displeased
with past tuners whose piano tunings didn't match up to the band's instruments.
The last tuning occurred just a few weeks back during Christmas holiday time.
There are a lot of fake piano tuners walking around. Their tuning prices
are a tad below Leo's price but they can't deliver. When Leo inspected the
church's Yamaha C-7grand, the piano was not even in standard pitch, meaning a
major tuning was needed. As Leo labored to retune the piano, this
church member sat quietly nearby the piano the whole time and listened intently.
When done, Leo asked what he thought about the piano's new sound and he exploded
two words, "It's grrrrrrrrrrrrrreat !!!"

Tan Mai, a new resident to Yorba Linda, CA, says we Southern
Californians shouldn't grumble about the winter chill here because it gets even
colder at night where he had come from, Phoenix, AZ. This graphic
designer's pastime interest is the piano. He has a good ear that can detect
the slightest note out of tune. Several piano technicians had tuned his piano in
the past but none quite fully satisfied him but he didn't question things as he had
assumed that those were the standards. When Leo tuned his piano, he
noticed a very different type of technician, someone who gives astounding results. In his words,
"This piano never sounded this way before. I never imagined it could sound so
beautiful like this. I love it." Afterwards, Leo played a Chopin piece and
Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata to which he commented "Your playing is masterly. You should be a concert pianist rather than a tuner."

Eliza Asawesna of Rowland Heights, CA recently inherited this
Wurlitzer spinet piano which was in her mom's house for over 20 yrs. collecting
dust. Though she has a good ear and can play a little bit, the piano was
to be for her daughter. Two local piano tuners inspected the piano and
gave her different stories of what's wrong along with their astronomical repair
estimates. One tuner had taken over two days to repair the piano and the result
was still poor. Dissatisfied, she then checked online and came upon Leo.
After Leo's piano tuning and repairs, she said "Wonderful sound. It took
you just an afternoon to do what another piano tuner took 2 days and still couldn't do
it."

Janet Litton of Brea, CA inherited this Young Chang piano
from her aunt that was never serviced in 15 yrs. The piano had dead
tones and was way off pitch. The strings were inflexible due to it not having
been
tuned in a longtime. She would like to take up piano practice and lessons
again
where she had last left off in her childhood. After the repairs, she said "This
piano is 100% better than it was before."

Joshua Chase of Alta Dena, CA had kept his Young Chang
console piano for over 20 years in garage storage and has finally took notice of
it. Now, established and married with a newborn, this line manager
for giant high tech Cisco wants to relearn his childhood piano, with
encouragement from his high tech wife who was a first violinist with her local
Youth Symphony in her early years. This is a case of two people immersed in high
tech, having found each other and a family, now wanting to rediscover their lost
musical art. His neglected piano fell a semitone flat and bringing it back to
standard pitch may take a few visits but already commenting after the first
session, he said "What a difference from before. It's wonderful."
