Public school administrator Gregory Johns of Los Angeles, CA
loves to play the piano when coming home. He doesn't read music but he's
got enough impressive chops to fool you. His playing is steeped in the Blues,
Gospel, and Jazz. You can't get him to stop talking about his idol, the great
jazz keyboardist Joe Sample. This 1960 Chickering grand piano was given to
him by his aunt-in-law but it sounded like an old honky tonk, out of tune saloon
piano. After Leo's piano tuning and repairs, Gregory said "Amazing!!!
You've changed this piano into a whole new different piano. I could hear
chords that I hadn't before. I could explore a lot more things now."
(12-30-06 T3, TS, A-GG)

William Lowell of Huntington Beach, CA, a retired building
maintenance supervisor for Los Angeles County enjoys playing gospel music on his
fine Yamaha U3 piano. He likes to tinker at the piano in between his daily
chores, walks, cooking, and web surfing. After
Leo's piano tuning and repairs he said "This is very good. I know now that
If I play something wrong it's my fault and not the piano's
fault. The piano is so much better than before."
(12-26-06 T3, TS, A-TW-Co)

Milo Bibelheimer of Fountain Valley, CA doesn't play the
piano but has it around so that his grandkids can play on it when they come to visit
him. He recently
retired from the Fountain Valley school system where he'd spent his entire life, working
all sorts of jobs from teacher, to principal, to being on the education board. As for the piano
tuning, he thinks it's great too.
(12-20-06 T2, A-TW)
"The piano sounds
right. Thanks Leo. You're great." says William Lowell of Fountain Valley, CA
(12-20-06 T2, A-TW)

Gina Wright of Laguna Hills, CA inherited a Knabe grand piano
from her aunt that was used by her famous uncle pianist who played with the
Jimmy Dorsey big band. The piano had continuous sounds or dead tones, and
was greatly out of tune. Being a curious observer, this customer was
invited to try her hand at tuning and repairing her piano with Leo assisting
her. After the repairs, she said "This was a much better tuning than when
I had it done from the last tuner."

The Esquivel family of Pico Rivera, CA lives next to a
charming mini lake with flocks of geese. (There are not that many lakes in
Orange County, save for the large magnificent looking man-made pond in Mission Viejo.)
Jesse, the dad, dreams to turn pro musician someday but remains, for the
time being, an avionic electronic technician by day and an amateur guitar strummer at
night. Over the summer this musical family bought this used Knabe grand piano
for their son, Robert, and, already, this college sophomore Beatles fan
youngster shows a lot of chops on the piano. As typical of old
pianos, it sounded lifeless with a few key problems. After the fixes, the
son commented "It was a honky tonk piano before but now it sounds great!" His
dad heartily agrees and adds "It sounds so good!"
(12-8-06 T3, DR, TS, AG)

Though late into the evening and tired Michael Bubman of Bell
Canyon, CA in Ventura county, can still smile for the camera after inspecting
the piano repairs. The Bubman family are having a big party the following day
with a big band jazz pianist neighbor coming over. For this parlor size
Shafer & Sons grand piano, the list of problems were numerous including annoying
continuous sounds, poor tone, pedal problem, and, of course, out of tune. But
now, the piano now sounds better and plays better with no more annoyances.
As Michael says, "I've had piano tuners before but they did not repair nor
inform me of the problems with my piano like Leo did. He is a
true craftsman, and a diligent one."
(12-7-06 T3, DR, TS, PR, SD, AG)

"A vast improvement (from before)" said mortgage underwriter
Benjamin Sagan of Laguna Hills, CA after the piano repairs that fixed the key
level, tone, stuck keys, and tuning. This young opera lover
has owned this unusual looking piano for 14 yrs, which looks like a grand piano
but is actually a Baldwin spinet. In his spare time, Ben sings,
accompanies singers, and plays for playhouses in the OC.
(12-5-06 T4, KL, TS, KR,)

The Harless family of Laguna Hills, CA list every member of
the family as pianist. Their piano hadn't been tuned in 10 yrs so for this
holiday season they gave it a go, and in came Leo for a big tuning. Pianos
are like a slowly sagging tree, going flat incrementally each year. After
long years of no service, it becomes impossible to push the tree back up to
form. Afterwards, Clayton Harless, an out of work computer hardware
man, or his daughter remarked that the piano finally sounded "Wonderful."
(12-5-06 T3, KR)

Anne Jackson of Costa Mesa, CA is a retired lady who doesn't
know the pronunciation of her "Kawai" piano and doesn't read music but she
figured how to play the piano on her own by ear. And how!! She plays in
the
nickelodeon piano style tunes by popular American Broadway composers. Her
rendition of the popular "The King and I" musical was fun and full of
energy. With
a wide smile, she remarks of the tuning "It's certainly different."
(12-4-06 T)

Leo tuned this 9' Steinway & Sons Grand piano at the La
Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts in La Mirada, CA upon request by Ritu Mathur
of La Mirada, CA. It was for an Indian classical dancing concert that
featured a live jazz band in which she was the emcee. Leo was alone in the
empty hall in the pre-concert hour. (Picture of Leo taken by a stage hand w/o
flash).
(12-3-06 T)

Dance choreographer and autistic teacher Jenifer McCubbin
just moved back into Orange County after a few years in boring Austin, TX.
Settled in Costa Mesa, CA with her Texan husband, she received this badly out of
tune spinet piano, passed on to her by her aunt, and is eager to explore
her love for classical music, such as Rachmaninoff's compositions.
Of Leo's piano tuning she said "It's awesome. Lovely sound. What a big
difference from before." For the mini-recital, Leo played his rendition of Pacebel's Canon D as it was the signature song of Jenifer's recent
wedding.
(11-21-06 T2)

It's recording session time for Jeffery David of Chino, CA, a professional musician working
in his music studio to compose, produce, and publish all sorts of on demand
music for Hollywood shows and commercials. He is also well known as the composer
of many religious hit songs used in churches around the country. His piano
playing is versatile and marvelous, be it pop, jazz or rock. He called
Leo up
on a last moment's notice to step on the gas pedal and floor it way out to San Bernadino county to tune his beautiful Yamaha C5 grand piano on a Saturday so
that he could record a
new CD of piano music on Sunday. Regarding the tuning, he said "I've
had many tuners but Leo tunes my piano like the way I had always wanted from my
Yamaha piano. He is worth it."
(11-19-06 T4)

Professional Golfer Teaubias Boesch of Long Beach, CA just
bought this beautiful old upright with ornate wood carvings to play New Age
music but it was hard to play due to numerous problems including stuck keys,
continuous sounds and echoes, hard tone, uneven keys, double strike keys, and
lastly, badly out of tune. As he recounted, "I called three piano tuners
to my house to get their opinions. The first tuner didn't know how to
repair a piano; the second tuner talked in generalities and mentioned a couple
of problems. The third tuner, pointed out many problems and was very
detailed in his analysis of needed repairs. I chose the third tuner, Leo, and am
very happy with his service and cost."
(11-17-06 T2, TS, DR, Ref)

Real estate agent Harold Morr of La Mirada, CA is moving back
to Ohio to be closer to his kids but he is not too pleased with having to face
cold climates after having been out here in CA for over 30 yrs. His only
real pleasure besides his work is playing the piano, in particular, playing
church hymns. After the piano tuning, Leo played Amazing Grace which he
said with beaming eyes, "It's a much better sounding piano now, and I
wish I could play that tune like the way you did."
(11-4-06 T)

"I am so impressed with the changes you did to my piano" said
Betty Bahlin of Fullerton, CA. The piano had problems with continuous
sustained sounds, echoing problems, out of tune, and a hard tone. This
piano has a little interesting history. Betty's father, who was an American GI
over in war torn Germany in 1947, was offered this piano in return for 2 cartons
of cigarettes, and 3 loafs of bread. This fine baby grand piano, made in
Germany's musical town of Stuttgart, had been in the Bahlin house for decades
and, in later years, Betty tried to return it to its owner, a mayor of a little
town, but couldn't find him. After the repairs, Betty had a couple of dinner
guests over so Leo played a few round of songs: a Beatle's song, a jazz number
on "Twinkle,Twinkle,Little Star", Leo's own "Stars, Stripe, and Dance", and a
grand improvisation on Betty's favorite song "Fur Elise" which got
everyone joyfully stirred up.
(11-1-06 DR, TS, T3)

Ted Miller and his cigarette chain smoking wife from Buena
Park, CA are a modest retired couple who decided to tune their piano which
hadn't seen service in 20 yrs and, surely enough, was a whole tone out of
standard pitch. The piano is for Damon, their 9 yr old
great grandkid who has ADHC whom they are raising while his mother is in jail.
When finished with the piano tuning and repairs, Leo played an improvisation
based on a theme from Mozart's fist sonata to which she remarked "I wish Damon
(who was asleep at the time) could hear it. He would be very impressed. This
piano sounds so gooooood."
(10-25-06 YH, T, TS)

Harry Lewis, a retired accountant formerly from Brea, CA, had
recently bought this charming house in Fullerton, CA and had Leo's piano movers
move his piano. Afterwards, Leo fixed up his piano so that his children
and grandchildren can play on it when they visit him. He
had contemplated total restoration once but finally opted for basic piano tuning
and repairs including tone work, string replacements, and correcting some
dampers. After a long evening of chats and observing the repairs, Leo played and
sang an original country style song to which he comments "This piano sounds very
good and that is a nice song."
(10-24-06 TW-N, T, KR3, TS, SR3)

Recording engineer Victor Trott of Santa Fe Springs, CA
picked up this free piano from his neighbor. It was badly out of tune and had
continuous ringing noises in some keys. The piano will be for his two kids
to learn, as well as for himself to sing and play religious songs. After
Leo's piano tuning and repairs, Victor beamed with appreciation saying "It
sounds really good." As he is a church choir member,
Leo
played for him "Amazing Grace" in classic Ray Charles jazz style. With
mesmerized staring eyes, he remarked "Its great. Just really great!"
(10-21-06 T2, KR3)

Jasper Nelson of Carson, CA felt better about his Sojin piano
after Leo's piano tuning. This instrument belongs to his sister, Mary, who
loves to play classic Ellington jazz piano when she comes home from a long day
at work at Kaiser Permanente. This lesser known Korean piano brand has had a bad
reputation as a cheap factory piano. But reputation not withstanding, this
piano was able to hold its tune exceedingly well, in fact, better than many old
Steinway pianos Leo has had to tune. Before departing, Leo played some Blues and
Jazz tunes to which he remarked "It sounds real good."
(10-19-06 T)

The Schnur family of Fullerton, CA got this 1950s Wurlitzer
piano from an estate sale and had Leo moved and tuned it. Mr.Schnur is a technical writer, an author of many computer manuals, but when it
comes to music, he confess to not knowing much about it but knew that the piano
sounded off. After the piano repairs, Leo played for him a song which he
quickly recognized as the music theme from the 1970s movie "Romeo and Juliet."
Contented with the new piano sound, he said simply, "Very good."
(10-16-06 PM, T3)

Rebekah Chang of Redondo Beach, CA finally had her
Steinway upright piano fixed after many years. After the repairs Leo gave the
classical music fan a little recital: an improvisation on Mozart's 1st
piano sonata and an improvisation on Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" theme. With full
of excitement upon hearing Leo playing, she said "That is just incredible and
marvelous playing. How long have you played the piano?" (Leo started
playing piano at 11 yrs old). Her comment encouraged Leo to rethink about
reviving an old career in piano entertainment. Leo used to play in bars,
and lounge.

Pastor Westly Beavis of the Destiny People's Christian Church
in Fullerton, CA plays the piano excellently with full of robust confidence on
this stunningly beautiful Schimmel concert grand piano in his new, small church,
tucked away anonymously in an industrial park. Top tier pianos like
this one---as are Yamaha concert grand pianos---are a pleasure to tune for they
allow for fine tuning. With a big satisfied smile the pianist pastor says
of the piano tuning "it's verrrryy good."
(10-10-06 T3)

This used beautiful Yamaha grand piano was recently acquired by the Kremer
family, of Fullerton, CA, for their two young daughters. The piano
had been neglected for many years and sounded way off. After Leo's piano
tuning and repair the parents were both impressed by the
change in their piano. "Absolutely beautiful," they said after listening
to Leo play a few songs to test the tuning. The evening ended with Leo's
energetic jazz piano rendition of the popular 1939 song, "Tea for Two."
(10-7-06 T4. KR2, IC)

The Jones of Mission Viejo bought a new beautiful long Knabe
grand piano for daughter Ashley but had never serviced it for 2 yrs.
Unfortunately for this young lady, her black beauty was more than a semi-tone
off which is very unusual for new pianos. Illogical as it may seem, new
pianos need twice more tunings than old pianos. New strings are very stiff and
need to be stretched out more often. It required several sessions of tunings to
get it back up to standard pitch. In addition, they had stuck keys, tones
hard like a hammer, and problems in the touch needing minor regulation.
Leo normally takes his time to get things right but the family was in a hurry to attend a charity concert
and put a rush job on the piano service with the result that the pitch raise
tuning had only a 1 pass tuning, normally requiring 2 pass tunings. Despite it, Ashley played some
quick test songs to inspect all the piano fixes, then raised
her thumb up and said smilingly, "It's all right."
(10--6-06 T. KR6, TS, IC, TR)

Former systems engineer turned homemaker mother Susan Kavner,
of Orange, CA remarked "We were displeased with our previous piano tuner.
He was horribly off in his tuning, especially in the bass and treble areas (of
the keyboard) but Leo's tuning hit it on the mark. It's so perfect and exact.
The tone also sounds a lot nicer now. It has a singing quality. No more
thin or harsh tones." This Weber grand piano was passed down in the family to 12
yr. old Tim, who can't stand learning classic music but loves to play movie hit
songs such as the "James Bond 007" theme and "Star Wars" theme.
(10--5-06 T. TS)

The McCoy family of Fullerton inherited this upright piano
from a house in Arizona by the Mexican border. It belonged to an American nun
who worked across the border in the overcrowded prisons of Mexico. "What a
wonderful difference" Stacy remarked after Leo's piano tuning and touch up
refinishing.
(10--2-06 T. RF)

Mindi Comes of Long Beach, CA won this beautiful brand new
Suzuki baby grand player piano as a contestant on Bob Barker's morning game show
the "Price Is Right" (aired on 9-18-06). She knows nothing about pianos
but she says she's "going to keep it so that her son will someday learn on it."
After every piano tuning, Leo plays a little piano recital. Today's piece is
Leos variations on the theme "twinkle, twinkle little star" for the little tot
and her smiling mom. Leo is the official piano tuner for Suzuki Pianos in
Southern California.
(9-28-06 T)

After the piano tuning, Leo played a little recital to the
delight of Joseph Hrycenko and his wife of Mission Viejo, CA who both loves the
piano but can't play it. Their Yamaha player grand piano entertains the couple
on the weekends. "Fabulous beautiful playing" he raved after hearing
Leo
play, and inquired into possibly hiring Leo as a pianist for a future date.
(9-27-06 T2)

Herbert Smith, the office manager of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, CA had this Young Chang baby grand in the
Church's children room whose exterior body looked pretty beat up and devalued
with its numerous nicks, and scratches so he ordered full piano repairs which included touch up refinishing
to the body. The appearance looked so good afterwards he and his pianist
wife decided to buy the piano from the church. "You're a master.
Wonderful piano refinishing restoration. It
looks like a new piano." Herbert
exclaimed after seeing the difference.

Erin Bilow of Studio City, CA plays in a rock band with her
synthesizer and at home, she plays classic music on her acoustic piano that was
recently passed down from the family. Badly out of tune pianos such as was
this one needs big tunings to raise the pitch level and then, periodically,
strings need to be tightened up to hold up that pitch level. After Leo's
piano tuning, she gives the thumbs up exclaiming "Sensational."
(9-6-06 T3)

Moving a piano can detune it. That's what had happened
to Ginny Mueller's piano in Tustin, CA. She had moved her piano to install
new carpeting and upon return, it sounded quite detuned, so awful that she
didn't play it for 8 months. Now, after Leo's tuning, she sighed a great
relief saying, "It's now in tune!" This talkative lady could have said
more but was busy on her cell phone.
(8-30-06 T2)

The Karson family of Santa Ana, CA inherited this old spinet
piano which was in the family for 30 yrs. The father and his new
baby boy enjoys the piano already. After the tuning, tone, and touch
repairs, Steve Karson said "Wonderful. It doesn't sound like a clunker
anymore."
(8-28-06 T3, TS, TR, AYB)

"Amazing!" exclaims Charles Samuelson, a former Simi Valley
resident now in Long Beach, CA, after checking out Leo's piano tuning,
voicing, and repairs. Charles hardly has any free time,
working 7 days a week running a private school. But of the few moments he has to
himself, he can be found to be playing his favorite composers Schubert or
Schumann on his Steinway parlor grand piano. "The chords feel just exactly
right. I've never had such a (precise piano) tuning. It's so
beautiful and clear."
(8-25-06 T5, TS, 4KR, DS, C, AG, M-6)

Wilma Lindberg, a pleasant lady originally from Eugene,
Oregon and now settled in sunny Monarch Beach, CA enjoys reading and playing her
piano. Her decades old spinet was increasingly annoying to her as some
keys were completely or mildly stuck and other keys felt uneven throughout.
This unresponsiveness is due to aging, wear, and tear, so recalibration of piano
touch (regulation) should be done every 5 years. Regulation turns
sluggish piano keys into fast response keys. After Leo's magic repairs,
Wilma uttered "It's just great. I can feel it (the improvement) already."
(8-17-06 T4, TS, TR, AG)

Just one week after her retirement from 48 yrs in the credit
approval business Dee Chamberlain of Glendale, CA was eager to take up singing
lessons and so had her antique player piano repaired, a 1907 Melville Clark.
Player pianos are back breaking difficult to tune and repair due to the
electromechanical components and most piano tuners do not service it, but Leo
does. The arduous hot afternoon task was made easier by the carefree company of
this pet friendly lady who fed and allowed the piano tuner's dog to come into her house. When
the repairs were done, she
remarked "My player piano sounded so horrible before but now it sounds so
lovely".
(8-10-06 T4, TS, AG)

After weeks of shopping around town, Stacy Kogurt-Martinez
of Orange, CA was thrilled to have finally brought home a used grand piano for
her teen son, Dominic, an amazing natural talent of 14. She writes "Leo's
Orange County piano movers were awesome. They did a great job of putting it
together. It looks like the scratches were touched up a little because it
looks better than when I saw it last. Dominic loves the new piano." And
after the piano tuning and repairs, Dominic and his mom added "It sounds so much
better than before. It sounds bodacious, an awesome large sound." Dad
heartily agrees.
(8-8-06 PM, TR)

Civil Engineer Jiri Herrmann of Aliso Viejo, CA, a recent
grad of UC-Irvine, had been displeased with his very out of tune George
Steck grand piano that he finally had stopped playing it for a few months upon
the urging of his wife. After Leo's long piano repairs, he remarked with great
relief that "the new piano sound is incomparable to the old one." The evening
ended with a violin duet with Leo at the piano and Jiri on violin. The piano
sounded in tune but, unfortunately, not the violin. By the way, Leo also tunes
violins, being once a violinist himself.
(8-4-06 T5, TS, AYB, M-6)

Melissa Perez of La Habra, CA is having a music teacher start
piano lessons for her 3 young kids soon, and so she decided to fix up her long
neglected piano. Though old, the piano had been kept shaded and cool
indoors so it is pretty stable and could keep in tune long.
Customarily after a piano repair Leo plays a little piano recital. This time he
played a Mozart improvisational piece which led her to comment "I wish my kids
could play like that but it'll be a long ways. The piano also sounds very
different, a ton of improvement."

best it had ever sounded." The piano has been in the family for 20 yrs,
in different locations, in New Jersey, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and other States.
She believes in regular tunings even though she doesn't play the piano.
It's for her pianist son who is overseas on vacation. By doing regular
maintenance on her piano, she benefits from a piano that is continually on
standard pitch and which will hold its tune long.
(8-1-06 T4, TS, A-SBC, M-6)

Steve Semingson of Huntington Beach, CA, expresses
appreciation to Leo's Orange County piano movers saying they were "professional,
courteous, and didn't make a scratch" on his piano nor on his new floor. This
very old upright piano, which looks in good shape on the outside, was a present
from his neighbor which Steve has kept around for 30 yrs.
(7-28-06 T, PM)

good touch and lovely tone.

consequence, he lost interest to play the piano for a year. Then he sought
out Leo's piano tuning service and comments "This piano sound was what I had
been looking for."

settled into a small house built and passed on by his grandparents. Eric enjoys
collecting musical instruments, and, among those is a nice Yamaha U3 upright
piano recently family donated, and moved to their new dig by
Leo's piano movers. After Leo's tuning Dion and her sister
Darnell added that "Leo was very helpful, kind, knowledgeable, and
hardworking. A great piano player as well as a great piano tuner. Play it Leo!"
This trio tips aplenty. I wish my other clients had the same spirit of
generosity, but that may be beyond the call of duty.
